Strandwood House

The boat houses on the Baltic coasts were previously used primarily for storing and maintaining ships and fishing gear. The traditional, simple building structure, its integration into the landscape and its genuine use of materials have also served as a source of inspiration for the "Strandwood House".

"Strandwood House", newly-constructed in 2014 on the first row in the Gager marina on Rügen Island, offers new perspectives! Its name represents the exclusive location right on the water and this vacation home's predominant element: Wood, whose structure and colour are reminiscent of flotsam. Incorporated into the picturesque harbour backdrop with visual perfection, it captivates thanks to its larchwood façade turned grey by the wind and weather, the open, interior design bathed in light, and the interior modelled after Scandinavian minimalism. It is a dream for individualists, who search for nature and peace and value a consistent line when it comes to design, even on vacation.

The idea behind the architectural design is just as simple as it is well thought-out: A lot of light, emphasis on the panoramas and a modest, coherent design. The house represents nonchalance, style awareness and a high feel-good factor.

Sticking to natural materials and a clear, functional design with lots of built-in closets create clarity and space. The living space consists of more than 130 square meters in total; the spacious main room, including the kitchen and dining area, is characterised by an open gallery. The ceilings here can be almost eight metres high. All rooms receive lighting from two sides.

Tailor-made Danish windows with large fronts and modest, slate-grey wooden frames create an interesting contrast to the white-lacquered maritime-pine plywood which lines the interior. The floor on the ground floor consists of polished screed; the upper floor is laid with parquet flooring made of brushed, white limed oak boards. The temperature of the entire house can be comfortably controlled using floor heating, sauna and wood-burner guarantee a cosy atmosphere all year round. High-quality designer furniture make up the furnishings, and the matching colour palette echoes mainly in tones of white, grey, mauve and petrol.
